This application helps you migrate a Tableau Pulse demo from Demoverse to your own Tableau Cloud site.

The migration process includes the following operations on your Tableau site:

Creating a project and a group
Publishing datasource(s)
Creating Pulse metrics and adding you as a follower of these metrics

Please note that workbooks will not be migrated. Prep Flows are migrated automatically when listed in flow_config.csv; flows with no entry in that file must be reconfigured manually from Demoverse.

Before you begin, ensure that:

You have a Site Administrator Creator role
Your user is associated with an @salesforce.com address
You have a valid Personal Access Token (PAT) (Help)

What is a Personal Access Token?

A Personal Access Token, or PAT, is a secure authentication method that allows users to access and interact with Tableau resources without using their username and password. Follow the instructions here (section "Create a Personal Access Token") to create your Personal Acces Token in Tableau Demoverse.

I lost the PAT secret. Can I recover it?

No. You need to create a new Personal Access Token.

Is the PAT needed for Demoverse?

No, we only require the Personal Access Token for the Tableau site where you want to migrate the demo. We handle the Demoverse connection.

Where are the datasources for Pulse metrics located?

A project named Pulse_Demos will be created on your site. The datasource(s) from the selected demo will be placed under the project Pulse_Demos_Name_of_the_Demo_YYYYMMDDHHMM.

Are the datasources migrated live or extracts?

The datasources are currently extracts. In the future, we plan to connect your datasource to Demoverse as a live connection..

Are Prep Flows and workbooks migrated too?

Workbooks are not migrated. Prep Flows are migrated automatically for demos listed in flow_config.csv — the flow is downloaded, its output nodes are repointed to the target site, and a scheduled task is created matching the source frequency. Flows not listed in flow_config.csv must be reconfigured manually from Demoverse.

Who follows the metrics after the migration?

The Pulse metrics are followed by the group Pulse_Demos_Name_of_the_Demo_YYYYMMDDHHMM. The user associated with the Personal Access Token is added to this group at the end of the migration.

What is Tableau Demoverse?

Tableau Demoverse is a Pulse-enabled site on Tableau Cloud where Pulse demos are staged and hosted for AEs and SEs to demonstrate. Additional information can be found in Solution Central.
